Congratulations to Liangyou Li who successfully defended his thesis entitled “Dependency Graph-Based Statistical Machine Translation”.

The external examiner was Dr. David Chiang from University of Notre Dame, US, the internal examiner was Dr. Jennifer Foster from Dublin City University and the Chairperson was Dr. Alistair Sutherland.

Liangyou was co-supervised by Qun Liu and Andy Way.

EXPERT (EXPloiting Empirical appRoaches to Translation) was a Marie Curie FP7 Initial Training Network project with the aim of training young researchers, namely Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) and Experienced Researchers (ERs), to promote the research, development and use of hybrid language translation technologies. The overall objective of EXPERT was to provide innovative research and training in the field of Translation memory and Machine Translation Technologies to 15 Marie Curie Fellows.

With a consortium consisting of 6 academic partners, 3 commercial partners, and 4 associated partners, the project started in October 2012 and ran for 4 years until the end of September 2016. More information about the partners can be found here.

Rohit Gupta is the first of the ESRs to successfully defend his PhD. His thesis is entitled Use of Language Technology to Improve Matching and Retrieval in Translation Memory and was supervised by Dr Constantin Orasan and Prof Ruslan Mitkov from University of Wolverhampton, UK and Prof Josef van Genabith from Saaarbrucken, Germany.

We would like to announce the Deep Learning For Machine Translation (DL4MT) Winter School at Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland.

Based on the work of Hoang Cuong (EXPERT ESR)  and Khalil Sima’an as reported in [1], a data selection tool for domain adaptation and data selection for SMT was implemented by Amir Kamran (SLPL Lab., ILLC, University of Amsterdam).

The third consortium wide training event organised by the project is the Scientific and technological workshop that will take place in Malaga between 25th and 27th June 2015. Job Description

Pangeanic BI-Europe (www.pangeanic.com) is looking for a post-doctoral researcher (Experienced Researcher - ER) to carry out research work on the implementation and evaluation of the new hybrid computer-aided translation technology proposed in the EXPERT project and particularly, how these can be applied to its PangeaMT platform. The ER will complement the work of a group of ESRs (Early Stage Researcher - ESR) with humanities background in the implementation and evaluation (including user aspects) of the improved prototypes proposed in EXPERT.

The contract will start as soon as possible and has a duration until 30th Sept 2016 when the EXPERT project finishes.

Hermes Traducciones is looking for a post-doctoral researcher (Experienced Researcher - ER) to investigate on the implementation and evaluation (including user aspects) of the improved SMT, EBMT and TM prototypes proposed in EXPERT project (http://expert-itn.eu).
